Membership
The South Canadian Amateur Radio Society (SCARS) is known throughout Cleveland County, Oklahoma.  In fact, SCARS is actively involved with the city of Norman during times of emergency, such as severe weather events.  SCARS works closely with the Office of Emergency Management for the city of Norman and the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Norman not only during times of emergency but also during public campaigns to assist in educating the public on preparedness.
Membership usually runs from 70 to 100.  Like any club, interests cover a wide range of Amateur Radio activities.  This variety of activities is one of the things that makes our hobby so neat.  There is something for everyone.  So someone in the club will probably be able to help you or answer questions you might have about different aspects of the hobby, whether it be Phone, CW, Data or Digital modes, Computers, Antennas, DX'ing or just local communications.  If you are new to amateur radio, it is understandable to be hesitant to get on the radio and talk to someone you have never known but SCARS has a great group of people that are willing to help you at all times get your feet wet on the airwaves.  SCARS encourages you to visit the Meetings page for more information on club meetings, radio nets, and other activities pertaining to the club.
Above: SCARS was recognized by an ARRL Official Observer for outstanding service during the 89'er Day Event 2005.
